WrestleMania is the biggest wrestling event of the year, and WrestleMania 40 certainly met expectations. Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles who tuned in were treated to a surprise appearance by Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson during Rey Mysterio and Andrade’s match against Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio.
While Kelce departed from the NFL earlier this offseason, Johnson remains under contract with the Eagles, which has piqued the interest of fans everywhere. Some were concerned that the veteran offensive lineman would violate his contract and get in problems with his team by participating in the event, but Philadelphia verified that they knew Johnson would be present and that he did not break any rules in the process.

Although the WWE is scripted, injuries can still occur during the shows. Teams in the NFL strive to keep their players as safe as possible, which has caused some teams to declare in their contracts that players signing would be unable to participate in their events. Some supporters were immediately concerned when Johnson showed there.
However, the Eagles acknowledged that this was not an issue for them or Johnson, and after viewing his involvement, it’s easy to see why. Johnson played a little role in the ring, mostly holding a chair and cheering from the sidelines. Assuming nothing catastrophic occurred, there was virtually no way Johnson could have been injured, and that is exactly what happened.
However, it is understandable that some fans might be concerned about seeing the famous offensive lineman in the ring at WrestleMania. Not only is Johnson one of the best right tackles in the league, having recently earned his fifth career Pro Bowl selection and a second-team All-Pro honor, but they also lost arguably their best offensive lineman, Kelce, to retirement, so they need to keep Johnson in order to ease the burden of replacing him.
Fortunately, nothing bad happened, and Kelce and Johnson’s entrances were only part of a star-studded spectacle that has received high praise from wrestling fans worldwide. Now that everything is over, Johnson and the Eagles will focus on the 2024 season, hoping to rebound from their terrible 2023 season.
