The Baltimore Ravens might end up keeping a few of their best free agents. The NFL’s news that the salary limit will rise by an astounding $30 million provided some much-needed respite for several teams that were hoping for cap relief. Use Baltimore as an illustration.

Leading Pro Bowl players like Patrick Queen and Kevin Zeitler were predicted to leave the Ravens before the hike. This would require the company to eliminate some of its more expensive players and realign others in order to even franchise tag defensive tackle Justin Madubuike. At least now they will be somewhat adaptable. It is currently projected by Over The Cap that the Ravens will have $16 million in cap space. They will require an additional $6 million in revenue to be able to offer a player such as Madubuike the tag, as defensive tackles are projected to earn $22 million through the service. Lamar Jackson, left tackle Ronnie Stanley, and defensive backs Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Williams may have their contracts restructured if the Ravens need to make some space in their budget. Baltimore may have over $40 million to work with when free agents begin to sign contracts, which isn’t the most in the league but is more than enough to make the team better if all four receive restructurings.

However, the fact that they will have extra funds to accomplish this is undoubtedly helpful. Copyright ABG-SI LLC. All rights reserved. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED is a registered trademark of ABG-SI LLC.
