James Allison, technical director of Mercedes, acknowledges that he is “desperate” to be let into Red Bull’s garage to examine their cutting-edge cooling system. Many were taken aback by the daring new design, which Adrian Newey oversaw, considering how easily Red Bull won the world titles the previous year.
Red Bull had shifted their focus to 2024 well before the end of the previous season, so they had plenty of time to construct their RB20. Newey and his engineering team made good use of that time, as seen by the introduction of their new vehicle and the pre-season testing that followed in Bahrain.
Red Bull chose to make a number of rather major design changes to the RB19 instead of refining the model that won 21 of 22 Grand Prix during the season.

Max Verstappen appears to be on track to win four consecutive Drivers’ Championships at the Bahrain International Circuit this week, and one aspect of the design has left Allison perplexed.
