If Tottenham is unable to get Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, they have chosen James Garner, an Everton midfielder, as a backup.

Journalist Dean Jones confirmed this via GiveMeSport on February 20. Gallagher is reportedly high on Spurs’ list of objectives.
But Garner is one of the players Tottenham will look to if the England international decides to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

“James Garner kind of fits the profile somewhat, so yeah, an interesting one to look out for,” Jones continued.

The contract status of James Garner
After switching to central midfield, Garner has emerged as a sensation this season, starting 23 of Everton’s 25 Premier League games.

The 22-year-old’s contract at Goodison Park is still valid through 2026, although the Toffees will undoubtedly be keen to extend it at a later date.

It’s easy to understand where these connections are coming from because Garner, whom Robbie Earle called “outstanding,” is not too unlike Gallagher.

Garner’s encouraging performances are being noted, according to a Monday, February 19, Daily Mail article citing England manager Gareth Southgate as one of his observers.

However, this unavoidable speculation also follows strong performances. Garner, though, is aware that he has it nice at Goodison Park since he has already lived at a top-six team—Manchester United.

The midfielder’s primary goal must be to keep Everton in the Premier League for the time being. Then, the rumors about the transfer may wait until the summer.
