Las Vegas — Monday is Sean Payton’s first draft meeting. Additionally, Russell Wilson’s status will be taken into consideration during those sessions.
For Wilson and the Broncos, it appears that their days are numbered. Hence, the question of what happens next is raised. The Broncos’ timing for getting back into the picture may determine the answer to that.
Mike Golic, a longtime radio presenter and former NFL defensive lineman, suggests the timescale might be brief.
Former NFL player and longtime broadcaster Mike Golic tells me, “Sean (Payton) wants to win now, so you find whether it’s a trade or a free agent, you find somebody who you feel can be that guy … I think you still want to hit the ground running with the team you have.” pic.twitter.com/5tTasatXUu

“It’s important to find someone who can win for Sean, whether through a trade or a free agent,” Golic stated from Radio Row during Super Bowl LVIII. “Sean wants to win now.”
Although I believe you still want to succeed right away with the team you have, it’s okay if you want to choose a quarterback and have a vet bridge.
SEAN PAYTON LEADS THE DECISION
Finally, the choice will be made based on Payton’s desires. The coach’s desires for his quarterback motivated the decision to bench Russell Wilson.
Russell Wilson will be your quarterback for the next five years because of the extension; you’re not bringing in Sean Payton and telling him that, Golic added.
You have to work out everything else, from cap money to dead money to dead cap hits, once Sean Payton makes his own decision to walk on. Behind the scenes, things become really intense.
Sean Payton and the Broncos will need to work through that as part of their dilemma.
Sean Payton appeared to be ready to move on and avoid the risk of accruing debt and then finding himself in salary cap trouble, according to Golic. Nevertheless, Denver will foot the bill while Russell plays for someone else for a lesser sum of money.
Golic will cover Super Bowl LVIII on the field for Westwood One’s radio coverage, which can be heard on 104.3 The Fan on Sunday.
