After withdrawing from the Italian Open due to an arm injury, Carlos Alcaraz is running out of time to be ready for the French Open. Despite being able to play through a right forearm ailment, the Spaniard acknowledged that the issue had “taken its toll” during the Madrid Open.

In the quarterfinal in Spain, Alcaraz—who was competing with strapping on his right arm—lost to Andrey Rublev. It was the 20-year-old’s first defeat at the competition in three years, during a run of 14 games.
Due to an injury, he was unable to participate in the Barcelona Open or the Monte-Carlo Masters. He is hoping that relaxation will help him fully recover. Alcaraz posted on X to notify supporters of his decision to withdraw from the Italian Open, citing a muscular edema—an accumulation of fluid in a muscle—as the cause of his illness.

Alcaraz tweeted: “After playing in Madrid, I experienced some arm pain.” I conducted several tests today and discovered that, as a result of my recent injury, I have muscular edoema in my pronator teres.

Regretfully, I will be unable to perform in Rome. I must take a nap in order to recuperate and play without any pain. I really apologise. I hope to see you at @InteBNLdItalia next year.
Alcaraz will need to recuperate completely in less than three weeks in order to play in the French Open’s opening round. June 9 is the date of the men’s singles final. The competition begins on May 26.

Following his 4-6 6-3 6-2 loss to Rublev, Alcaraz said that he was experiencing pain throughout his body after fighting Jan-Lennard Struff for almost three hours the day before.
After his encounter with Rublev, he commented, “It has been a difficult day for me after yesterday’s match; it had been a while without a match like this and I woke up with soreness all over my body.”

“I’ve been feeling a little off because of the forearm. Although I won’t minimise Rublev’s match, I found it to be challenging.”

The defending Wimbledon champion achieved his greatest Roland-Garros performance to date last year as he advanced to the French Open semifinals. A hip problem forced Jannik Sinner to withdraw from the Madrid Open in before of his quarterfinal matchup with Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Italian has not stated if he plans to compete in his hometown competition in Rome.
