The Phoenix Suns must put Kevin Durant on Anthony Edwards, according to Draymond Green.
Coach Frank Vogel must devise a new strategy to help the Phoenix Suns avoid falling behind the Minnesota Timberwolves 0-2 in their series before they return to the Valley for Games 3/4 this coming weekend. The Suns are currently trailing 1-0 in the series.
Draymond Green has a suggestion: start Anthony Edwards with Kevin Durant.
“The Phoenix Suns will need to play defense against Anthony Edwards for the duration of the series. That needs to be his opponent. It is imperative for Phoenix to depend on Devin Booker. Bradley. Grayson Allen, you’re going to need to make some field goals. And they’ll need to depend on those players to lead the offensive charge,” Green stated on his podcast.
“Because to ask Kevin to go try to lock up Anthony Edwards and then go carry the load on offense in NBA year 18—it ain’t happening every night.”
Vogel has praised Durant as one of Phoenix’s better defenders for the majority of the regular season, and it might be time to prove it.
Vogel stated of Durant early in the season, “That’s the most important thing: He has a high care factor.” He is our most vociferous member when we are not defending to a high enough standard. He also poses challenges to others. All in all, I believe that our boys have been doing a great job lately of pushing one another. The captains are battling one another, the coaches are challenging the players, and our lads are pushing our coaching style. Our conversation is truly moving in the right direction—in a healthy way.
Due to his season-long efforts, Durant may make the All-NBA defensive team. However, if he is removed from Karl-Anthony Towns’ defensive lineup, it may create more opportunities for KAT down low, where Minnesota currently excels.
Tuesday, at 4:30 PM Arizona time, is when Game 2 gets underway. It will be interesting to watch if Vogel adjusts to slow down Edwards.
