Tiger Woods shared a moment with a senior CBS broadcaster on the 16th hole, despite the fact that his Masters round was still playing.
Despite fighting through an arduous final round, Tiger Woods took a time to honor a legacy before the 2024 Masters event concluded at Augusta.

Verne Lundquist, the 83-year-old CBS announcer, was at Augusta National for his farewell Masters broadcast, and Woods took a moment to honor him while sitting on the 16th hole.

Lundquist is well-known for commentating on some of Woods’ most memorable professional golf exploits, such as his legendary chip shot on the 16th hole of the 2005 Masters, which helped him win his fourth Masters championship.

Earlier in the week, Woods referred to Lundquist’s comments on the chip shot.
“He has an amazing ability to bring in the audience and describe a situation and be able to narrate it in a way that’s poetic,” Lundquist said in a statement.

“He just draws the audience in … that’s what I grew up watching, I grew up listening to Verne.”

Unfortunately, Woods’ performance at the 2024 Masters was far from his previous best.

He finished 16 strokes over par, with a career-worst Masters round of 5-over, and tied for 60th place. It has been five years since Woods’ last major championship, which he won by one stroke at 13-under at the 2019 Masters.

Woods, who will turn 49 in December, has won 15 majors in his career, three fewer than Jack Nicklaus’ record 18.

He withdrew from last year’s Masters, his most recent major performance until this weekend’s August National.

The 2024 Masters marked Lundquist’s 40th year covering the event for CBS, and it would be his final broadcast.
