Viktor Gyokeres, a player from Sporting Lisbon, is a target for Manchester United.

Manchester United Football Club’s front line will change this summer. Anthony Martial is about to leave, and Jadon Sancho will follow him out the exit. Then there’s Antony, who is underperforming.

The Reds need to recruit some forward aid for Rasmus Hojlund, who cannot handle the striker burden alone.

Several names have been connected to filling that vacuum, and today HITC adds another player to the mix: Viktor Gyokeres.

According to their sources, United are’showing an interest’ in signing the 26-year-old striker as the Reds hunt for backup for Hojlund.

United are reportedly ‘assessing’ a variety of alternatives, including Sporting CP’s Gyokeres, who has 36 goals in 43 outings across all competitions this season.

What’s the problem? Liverpool is also interested in signing the Swedish international. United are in ‘fear’ that their fierce rivals will’scupper’ any potential move for Gyokeres.

I honestly believe this is one of the astute moves United could make. Gyokeres is from a lesser-known league, so he’ll have less pressure to perform from the start.

United may be able to leverage their strong working connection with Sporting CP in this situation. The teams have been involved in numerous transfer deals throughout the years, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes leading the way in terms of Portuguese success stories in Manchester.

It all boils down to what Gyokeres desires. Let’s hope Liverpool finishes the season without winning a big title, giving United a stronger chance of signing the Swede in the summer.

Do you think a move by Manchester United to sign Viktor Gyokeres makes sense? Please share your ideas in the comment box below.
