Southport, North Carolina – North Carolina A&T is in eighth place following the first day of the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Golf Championships, which were held on the par-72, 6,013-yard The Reverse Club – St. James course.

After Day 1, UNC Wilmington leads the championship event with a score of 20 over 308. The College of Charleston is one shot behind the leader, while Campbell and Delaware are tied for third at 24-over 312. Round one, the Aggies shot 47 over par 335. Freshman Paris Fieldings led the Aggies with a 6-over 78. She is tied for 11th with William & Mary’s Simone Senk and Elon’s Kanokwan Ngamwong.

Tori Mouton, an A&T sophomore, is in eighth place, tied for 14th after shooting a 7-over 79 on Friday. Fieldings and Mouton are behind first-day leaders Alisa Khokhlova of Delaware and Malu Brinker of UNCW. Both women shot a 2-over 74. Monmouth’s Ava Lozito is one shot behind the leader at 3-over 75.

Fieldings’ day began brilliantly. She birdied the par-4, 362-yard tenth hole. A bogey on 11 brought Fieldings back to even par, and she parred the following two holes. Fieldings was 3-over coming into the par-5, 500-yard 17th hole after three consecutive bogeys. She carded pars on the 17th and 18th before birdieing the par-4, 363-yard No. 1 to go two over.

Fieldings made three bogeys and a par over the next four holes, putting her at 5-over. She completed the sixth and seventh before an unusual finale to her day. She had a triple bogey on the par-4, 353-yard eighth, but eagled the par-4, 252-yard ninth to finish with a 78.

Mouton also had an eagle on Friday. It happened on the par-5, 510-yard 12th hole after she began her round on No. 10. The Eagle brought Mouton to even par before four consecutive bogeys on 16, 17, 18, and No. 1 put her at 4-over. After a par on No. 2, she earned her first birdie of the day, a four on No. 3, a par-5 measuring 498 yards. The rest of her round consisted of four pars and two double bogies.

Junior Kennedi Lee finished in a six-way tie for 35th after shooting an 84 in Round 1. She made one birdie throughout the round, a three on the par-4, 343-yard 18th. On Friday, graduate Jayla Rogers and freshman Sofia Fernando represented the Aggies. Both women shot 94. Fernando will be the first Aggie to tee off on Saturday.

Fernando will tee off at 9:20 a.m. on No. 10. Rogers, Lee, Mouton, and Fieldings will follow, each 10 minutes after the previous.
