OUISVILLE — This weekend, Scottie Scheffler will have a temporary caddie, if only temporarily.

Before the PGA Championship on Tuesday at Valhalla, Scheffler told the media that his regular looper, Ted Scott, will be leaving Louisville on Friday night to attend his daughter’s high school graduation.

Following the breakup of Scott and his longtime partner Bubba Watson, Scheffler and Scott have been together since late 2021. Scott has been there for all ten of Scheffler’s triumphs on the PGA Tour.

But according to Scheffler, Scott and he bonded via a similar commitment to family, and Scheffler wants Scott to be present for his daughter’s celebration.

Scheffler stated, “It was a pretty easy decision.” “I scheduled a backup caddie after he informed me at the start of the year that that was the date. On Saturday, one of my friends will carry the luggage, and Ted will return for the round on Sunday.”

The friend in question is Brad Payne, a PGA Tour chaplain. Scheffler remarked, “I trust him more than my buddies to rake a bunker.”

Having won four of his previous five appearances, Scheffler is the tournament favorite going into the PGA Championship. Along with winning his second Masters title, he became the first player to successfully defend the Players Championship during this run of success. Due to the birth of his first child, Scheffler was unable to participate in last week’s Wells Fargo Championship or the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which was held in his hometown of Dallas.
