Orchard Park, New York. The Buffalo Bills selected Duke defensive tackle DeWayne Carter 95th overall in the NFL Draft’s third round on Friday night.

The Bills returned to the third round after trading down with the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round, moving 38 positions from 133 (fourth round) to 95.

Carter is a three-year Duke captain who predominantly played three-technique defensive tackle. He is expected to serve as a backup to starting Bills three-tech Ed Oliver, although he will have competition from free agents Austin Johnson and Deshawn Williams.

Carter most likely got on the Bills’ radar during the Senior Bowl. During an interview with The Draft Network, he compared his playing style to that of Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett.

“For me, passion and effort jump off the screen when analysing my tape,” he told me. “That happens right away. I am a hard player. I sprint around the field. I have moved up and down the defensive line. “I can play anywhere between the tackles.

The Bills have re-signed defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, who will start beside Oliver again. Carter’s presence adds valuable depth to Buffalo’s defensive line. Beane has not taken a defensive tackle since Oliver in the 2019 selection.
