Pedro Acosta’s racecraft has been compared to a peak Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez.

The MotoGP rookie shone in the first three rounds of the season, finishing on the podium twice.

Jorge Lorenzo predicts Acosta will win the fourth round in Jerez next weekend.

However, at the Circuit of the Americas, he took the lead for the first time in a MotoGP race after a great battle with Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez.

“It’s Valentino Rossi-esque. It’s reminiscent of Marc Marquez. Neil Hodgson’s verdict on TNT Sports was that they were in their prime.

“Having control and knowing where the cyclist is behind you.

“You understand that if you brake at a specific location. You don’t mind if someone outbrakes you because they won’t be able to stop their bike.

“Time that cut-back, and we’re talking millimetres.

“If you get it wrong, you crash because your front wheel collides with their back wheel.

“But he does it smoothly and consistently.” Unreal!”

Hodgson commented on Acosta’s ability to overtake: “That was very Kevin Schwantz!” Without hesitation.

“Instinctive, outstanding, and accurate passes.

Michael Laverty added: “He enjoys the battle and the scrapes.

“He was three circuits into leading his first MotoGP race, attempting to find out how to control the pace and keep them behind him.

“He has an uncanny awareness of what is happening behind the scenes.

“He didn’t realize they were on softs and he was on medium, but he felt it.”

“That explains why he kept attacking. He has this unique capacity to race.

“I’ve never seen a race craft like that.

“In his four years as a grand prix racer, he has excelled. I don’t believe he’s ever been outfoxed.”

Hodgson responded, “Imagine being Pedro at 19 years old. Dani Pedrosa received a wildcard into the next round.

“He will be able to race him. “And learn from him.”

If MotoGP icon Lorenzo’s forecast is correct, Acosta might finish on the top step of the podium in Jerez.

Herve Poncharal of Tech3 GASGAS expressed surprise in the Texas paddock at Acosta’s superb ride.

“I’ve got nothing to say! Poncharal added, “I’m happy; we’re all over the moon.”

“There’s no explanation. This is pure magic. Enjoy the magic of the moment.

“This is why I claim 1+1=2. However, in racing, 1+1 does not equal 2.

“This guy is literally from another planet.

“He makes us happy and proud.”
