UNC basketball appears to be interested in signing the son of a former NBA sharpshooter.

The transfer portal, like UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis, never appears to take a day off. He has been in contact with numerous transfers who have placed their names into the transfer portal, as the Tar Heels’ leader seeks to bolster a solid team for next season.

So far, UNC’s primary focus has been on acquiring a transfer big man to play down low. But it appears Davis’ staff still has time to contact other players.

On Wednesday, 247Sports reported that Stanford transfer Andrej Stojakovic had “multiple conversations” with the UNC staff.

Stojakovic, the son of 13-year NBA veteran Peja Stojakovic, was a four-star prospect in the 2023 class before deciding to play at Stanford. In his one year with the Cardinals, the 19-year-old averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while playing little more than 22 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-7 freshman had a solid start to the season, but his minutes decreased slightly as the season went on. Stojakovic’s greatest game came in Stanford’s 31-point win over Southern California, when he finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists on 8-for-12 shooting.

He is now ranked 48th overall on the 247Sports transfer portal and ninth among small forwards.

Although it remains to be seen whether players like RJ Davis and Harrison Ingram, a Tar Heel transfer prize from Stanford last year, will return for another season in Chapel Hill, Stojakovic appears to be destined for a role off the bench if he joins Hubert Davis and UNC.

Regardless, his length and shooting ability could be key assets to the Tar Heels next season.

Andrej Stojakovic told On3’s Jacob Polacheck that he currently does not have a decision timeline in mind.

“I don’t want to wait too long, but I’m definitely not rushing,” he said. “It might last two weeks. “It could take a month.”
