The 88th Masters Tournament’s last partnership featured Collin Morikawa going into Sunday’s final round. Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top player, was one shot behind him.

It looked early in his round that the back nine was going to be spectacular. But Morikawa’s hopes of winning his maiden Green Jacket were all but dashed by a couple of inauspicious double bogeys that loomed.

Morikawa was very open after his round, claiming that “greed” was the reason he lost on Sunday.

However, the two-time major winner adopted a more relaxed stance and made use of social media after giving it some thought.

I’ve discovered a couple things this week.

  1. Obviously, don’t smash it in the water on 11.

  2. Improve my tee flipping so that I consistently finish second,” Morikawa wrote on X.

He was referring to one of the double bogeys stated before. Morikawa tried to reach the pin on the challenging par-4 11th hole with extreme aggression. The apparent play was safely to the right side of the green and probably a two-putt for par, with the pin situated on the left edge of the area covered up by a bunker and the lake adjacent to it.

But he was three strokes off the lead after making double bogeys on the previous two holes. Morikawa probably felt pushed to take a risk and went for it.

His other half was quite jovial.

It was unknown who was the furthest away from the hole on the thirteenth hole. Morikawa decided to find out which way a tee landed by flipping it into the air. It then pushed him to play first by pointing at him.

But both golfers would go on to make a birdie on the hole.

It’s good to see the more humorous side of Morikawa, who is normally so serious. It is obvious that he is capable of competing for any major championship. As seen by his remarks saying he is “not scared” before Sunday’s championship round, he also exudes confidence.

All he has to do now is seal the deal.
