Von Miller’s unusual Instagram tale hints at an explosive first round for the Buffalo Bills in the 2017 NFL Draft Von Miller appears to be implying that the Buffalo Bills are circling wagons much beyond their own in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Count Miller among the many Western New Yorkers expecting to see the Bills bolster their receiving corps with their first pick, but the veteran defense appears to be hinting that such a fateful pick may come sooner than Buffalo’s normally scheduled pick at 28th overall: Miller’s Instagram story included a doctored video of Brandon Beane, which showed the team’s general manager dancing to the joy of a throng. The caption appears to hint at Beane’s draft plans in less than two weeks.

Josh Allen’s aerial arsenal suffered a setback this summer, with top options Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis leaving for Houston and Jacksonville. Buffalo did bring in Curtis Samuel, but that is far from enough to persuade mock drafters that it will look outside the receiving position.

Beane has been hesitant to utilize draft picks on receivers; the highest he has ever selected was Davis in the fourth round of 2020. Buffalo has not used a first-round pick on a receiver since Sammy Watkins went fourth overall in 2014. With doubts hanging over Buffalo’s Super Bowl window, it stands to reason that they’ll try to make Allen’s offensive journey as easy as possible. With the rookie receivers group very top-heavy, Beane and Co. may have little choice but to trade.

The 2024 NFL Draft begins on April 25 in Detroit.
