The Phoenix Suns defeated the Los Angeles Clippers with a timely road game on Wednesday night, knowing that their season was on the line. A rival that had merely visited The Valley the previous evening stole the Suns’ soul and forced them back into a play-in contest.

There were virtually no reasons to drop this one, with Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden all out. Particularly considering that the Clippers have already guaranteed the fourth spot and will soon face challenging road games against the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves. To calm down the Suns supporters, Booker scored a team-high 37 points.

But the play of a Clippers player who also scored 37 points in antics showed how right the front management was to never have pursued them in the first place.
So take this as our sincere apologies for even suggesting back in December that the Suns should and ought to trade for Bones Hyland—it was the proper decision not to do so. At that point, it was argued that Hyland, a microwave scorer off the bench, would be forced onto the bench of that roster since Harden had moved to Los Angeles.

That has turned out to be accurate—Hyland has scored 5.7 points in just 35 games this season, but he wasn’t pushed behind due to the level of star power. Theoretically, the Suns require players who can generate some offense off the bench to partner with Royce O’Neale in the event that Bradley Beal or Booker are benched.

However, Hyland showed that he was simply not the right player in the Suns’ 124-108 defeat. Despite shooting just 15 of the 29 shots he attempted in this game, he was 6-of-12 from three-point range. Although this is a far cry from the 31 percent he’s averaged this season, it is more evidence that he has to shoot more frequently in order to have the kind of impact the Suns would have required.

In reference, Amir Coffey of the Clippers had the second-highest number of shots among starters with 13, while Brandon Boston Jr. scored 24 points in 40 minutes as a substitute for a starter. But what had to be seen to be believed were his theatrics, as the shot clock was ticking down and the game was out of reach. Hyland is desperately trying to lift it up from everywhere in order to get a 40-burger.

At one point in the game, Hyland led a badly depleted squad to within four points, and he played pretty well. There were other times when you could see a capable eighth or ninth player coming off the bench. But considering the Suns’ current record, can you imagine what would have happened if Hyland had pursued 40 in that manner while wearing the Suns uniform?

Hyland’s personality and attitude are entertaining for some to observe, but they are the exact opposite of what the Suns need on their roster at this point in the season; therefore, head coach Frank Vogel would have most likely banished him to the G League for life. He’ll never be a consistent member of the Clippers’ rotation for the same reason that the Denver Nuggets abandoned him after 116 games.

Hyland is slated to earn slightly more than $4 million in the upcoming season, and the Suns will need to replace a sizable portion of their roster this summer. Although that amount would easily fit into the Suns’ stretch-cap sheet, there’s little doubt that he will be available via trade; nonetheless, this performance once again demonstrated why doing so would be a horrible decision.

When it comes to your team’s chances, he can be frightening and entertaining to watch as a neutral.

NBA star speculates that Devin Booker might depart the Phoenix Suns
Despite being the core of the Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker may easily leave for the New York Knicks, according to a prominent NBA figure.

After losing to the Los Angeles Clippers recently, the Phoenix Suns’ season reached a new low and they once again fell into the Western Conference play-in bracket spots. The way the squad lost that game at home—down 35–4 at one point—is a terrible omen for what is ahead for this team.

Devin Booker means that the franchise will have success this season, even though a championship is as far off for this squad as it has ever been. a genuine superstar who is currently just beginning his prime and ranked among the league’s top ten players. Getting the player to then develop around is the difficult part in this league.

Is it possible that Booker will leave The Valley before we expect? One prominent NBA player claims that there most definitely is.
First things first: in the realm of NBA media, Bill Simmons is one of the most divisive personalities there is. He frequently speaks without thinking, even if he has shown a lack of comprehension of the circumstances around the league or that he hasn’t watched enough of a player or team to form the kind of broad conclusions that he regularly does.

Yet, Simmons does outline the kind of scenario that is, regrettably for Suns supporters, not all that difficult to envision occurring when he suggests that Booker might somehow end up with the New York Knicks. Particularly in an era where athletes such as Stephen Curry represent the exception rather than the rule by remaining with one team their whole career.

See, when I consider the grand scheme of the Knicks, (Mikal) Bridges and Booker come to mind. And while I am aware that Booker will never leave Phoenix, I still don’t think players in the NBA are ever in the same spot. We’ve suffered burns rather frequently.”

Regarding Devin Booker, Bill Simmons
For starters, Simmons is right when he says that the first half is concerning. Did we ever imagine Kevin Durant would leave the Oklahoma City Thunder, a borderline contender, to join the Golden State Warriors, then the best club in the league? Or leave that scenario to play for the Brooklyn Nets, where he inexplicably paired up with Kyrie Irving and James Harden?

Harden, who currently plays with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, made a trip in Philadelphia with the 76ers and Joel Embiid. Would Bradley Beal, with one of the biggest contracts in the game, somehow join the Suns, who already had Booker and Durant as their two max players? Thus, it is most definitely not impossible, and Simmons’ statement only makes matters worse.

“And if I were the Knicks, I would be upset at the end of April because there are so many excellent teams out there right now. We just lost in five games in the first round against a couple of teams that are like holy ****. Or, we didn’t even make it out of the play-in, oh my god. We recently invested $250 million in our team, and Phoenix seems like a solid fit for that.”

Regarding Devin Booker, Bill Simmons
Right now, the Suns have a very good chance of pulling off this scenario because it is difficult to imagine them defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, or Denver Nuggets in a first-round series, even if they make it out of the play-in positions or the tournament itself. What would happen if the Beal contract prevented any flexibility and the team wanted to bring back Royce O’Neale and Grayson Allen?

Although Booker’s supporters will not want to hear it, he is just like any other player in the league who struggles to find success and eventually turns to other players to help him get over the hump. Simmons cited the Knicks as an example, and it may be alluring to join forces with Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and possibly even Julius Randle.

Although none of them are as good as Durant individually, they are all younger, and their window of opportunity to win a championship would have been greater if they had played in the weaker Eastern Conference than it is in Phoenix right now. For the Suns and its owner, Mat Ishbia, that would be the ultimate calamity, but Simmons had one more, equally gloomy, point to make about the situation.

NEXT: Three Suns who will disappoint them in the postseason: “I felt that the Phoenix vs. Cleveland game resembled the awful All-Star game. I was concerned about both teams’ mental states at different points. It’s also necessary to discuss Durant’s podcast chat with Rich Kleiman. I found it amusing that Durant’s manager said, “I told you we should have done the Knicks,” and KD responded, “I know, you were right.” The Knicks can now enter via the open door.”

Regarding the Suns, Bill Simmons
Although Durant bouncing for New York wouldn’t be as horrible, it’s still not nice that Booker and Durant both displayed dubious behavior following the Clippers loss. Although Booker doesn’t yet appear to be ready to leave Phoenix, this hypothetical situation is unsettling since, when stated clearly, it does not seem implausible.
