Despite having their initial offer rejected in January, Andretti Global is moving full steam ahead with plans to enter Formula One and has opened a new plant at Silverstone.

With the support of the FIA, Andretti was hoping to join Formula 1 as the eleventh team in 2026. However, their proposal was turned down by Formula One Management (FOM), the commercial rights holder, who insisted that the American-owned team would “not add value” to the sport.

Nonetheless, Michael Andretti, the son of 1978 Formula One World Champion Mario Andretti, and his crew are still developing, and their most recent move was the construction of a new 48,000 square foot facility at Silverstone, which is adjacent to both the world-famous track and Aston Martin’s new headquarters.

As the team prepares for a possible entry in 2028, the plant, which will house the 80-person crew currently based in the UK, is a “milestone.” The factory will concentrate on manufacturing techniques and technological research.
