The Minnesota Vikings are researching quarterback prospects ahead of the 2017 NFL draft.

NThe Vikings own two picks in the first round of the draft. They have their own o. 11 pick and acquired the No. 23 overall pick in a recent trade with the Houston Texans. Most anticipate them to take a quarterback with one of those two picks or combine them to move up higher in the first round.

Michael Penix Jr. is certainly a quarterback on the Vikings’ radar. According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Minnesota’s entire staff, including head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, traveled to Seattle for a private workout with Penix on Thursday.
Most observers rank Penix as the fourth or fifth best quarterback in the draft. Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy are likely to be the first four quarterbacks selected, with Williams going to the Chicago Bears at number one and the other three going in some order. The four quarterbacks might potentially be among the top four picks.

The Arizona Cardinals, who have Kyle Murray, currently hold the No. 4 pick. There is a potential they will trade it to the Vikings or another team.

Penix is a player whose stock may climb in the weeks preceding the draft. Over the previous two seasons, the former Washington star has thrown for 9,544 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. He impressed scouts with more than just his passing abilities during his recent pro day.

If the Vikings opt not to trade up in the draft, Penix would be a great fit for them.
