When the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Justin Fields through trade, it was a low-risk/high-reward decision.

To acquire a youthful former first-round pick, they merely needed to forfeit a conditional sixth-round pick.
Because of Russell Wilson’s advancing years and declining form, some think there is a good chance the Ohio State product will eventually take over as the starting quarterback.

However, that isn’t the current feeling of NFL commentator Craig Carton.

He was blunt in his criticism of Fields during an appearance on The Carton Show, saying there was no possibility at all that he would return for the upcoming season.

The divisive commentator went on to say that Fields hasn’t proven he can start at the next level and that he won’t be anything more than a backup in Pittsburgh, so people should put that argument to rest and stop bringing him up.

In all honesty, Fields’ performance has been somewhat lackluster.

However, it’s not like the Chicago Bears did everything in their power to give him a chance to succeed.

In addition, his contract status significantly reduced his trade value. Had he been a free agent or had one more year remaining on his contract, he probably would have attracted greater attention from throughout the league.

It will now be his responsibility to disprove everyone.
