When Mitch Trubisky first appeared on NBC Sports Chicago, he texted Kenny Pickens to congratulate him on getting picked by the Steelers.

The Steelers seemed to be giving Mitch Trubisky a second opportunity to turn around his career with a team he could lead when he signed him in 2022 to a vacant quarterback room that also had Mason Rudolph and DeWayne Haskins.

That soon changed.

After around six weeks, the Steelers selected Pitt’s Kenny Pickett as the first quarterback off the board in an even more devoid quarterback draft class. Subsequently, Trubisky recognized that he would be rightfully vying for his starting position, all the while in the shadow of a rookie who offered optimism for closing the success gap between himself and Ben Roethlisberger.

According to a new revelation, Trubisky was not included in that plan, as it takes us back to that very night.

“Trubisky was never going to be successful with the Steelers,” Pittsburgh Post Gazette writer Gerry Dulac stated. “In March 2022, six weeks after he inked a $14.3 million, two-year contract in free agency, Pickett was selected by the Steelers with their first-round selection.

“That evening, a text message asking Trubisky to text and congratulate the newest quarterback for the Steelers caught him off guard. After that, it makes sense why he constantly appeared to be watching his back.”

Oh no. That text is really degrading. It has the same vibe as a parent admonishing their child to say “please” and “thank you.” But Trubisky shouldn’t have too much trouble hearing that tune.

Shortly before they traded up to select Trubisky in the 2017 NFL draft, the Bears inked quarterback Mike Glennon of the Buccaneers. That is a little different now. At that point, Glennon was not a sure thing as a quarterback. However, he was only three years into his career when the Bears signed him to a lucrative three-year, $45 million contract.

Nevertheless, for a quarterback attempting to regain stability in a starting position, that’s never an easy pill to swallow. And Trubisky’s endeavor with Pittsburgh came to an end lately when the organization severed their relationship with him.

Trubisky passed for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns, and ten interceptions in his 18 games with the Steelers. After two seasons with Pittsburgh, he concluded with a passer rating of 77.6. On March 13, when the new league year officially begins, he will resume his free agency endeavors.
