The 2023–24 NFL season that the Philadelphia Eagles had hoped for did not materialize. The Eagles were eliminated from the postseason in the opening round. To better support Devonta Smith and AJ Brown, Philly has moved on former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr.

The Eagles add further depth to their receiving corps despite a dismal season finale. According to Browns Wire, Austin Watkins Jr. was added to the team on Thursday. The 25-year-old played all of the season as a member of Cleveland’s practice squad. Now he will be able to get experience playing with two of the NFL’s top receivers.

With an outstanding regular-season performance, AJ Brown assisted in spearheading Philly’s offensive assault. In addition to seven touchdowns, Brown caught 106 passes for 1,456 yards. He was quarterback Jalen Hurts’ preferred target. Brown will bounce back strong, but he was hoping for more of an impact during the playoffs.

Devonta Smith, meanwhile, made a fantastic foil for Brown’s performance. The 25-year-old hauled in 81 passes for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns. He will help Brown have another outstanding performance in the fall of 2024 and is an essential part of Philly’s receiving core.
